Welcome to the Speares Extreme website

Speares extreme is formed in association with the highly successful Speares Rowing Club. As with the Rowing Club we enter events to have a good time, while still being competitive! Dull, boring and slog are not words associated with our membership of adrenaline enthusiasts!

Regular events range from charity bike rides to more energetic rides such as cycling from London to Paris; hot air ballooning to paragliding; coastal paddles to kite surfing; from a gentle jog to 3-day endurance marathons; and, that's just for starters...

The social calendar is equally as challenging with weekly “thirsty Thursday” pub sessions and an annual black tie ball that tops 200 guests!

23/06/09 Slow progress for Nunatak

The last 24 hours have been slow progress with the wind less than 5 knots for most of the day, they are rowing in 10 minute shifts until dawn when we hope the wind will increase. Apparantly the boys technique is not that great so Richard is having to do a lot of coaching! Poor guys...

Further bad news is that John is offering to cook dinner!

Away from the boat, the lull in action has allowed the official support team of Pam & Katy a chance to relax after tracking the team since Saturday. Although I believe they've spent the time eating fine food, drinking & getting lost!

Just a reminder that you can track them live, Nunatak not the girls, at: http://live.adventuretracking.com/tpyr2009

You can also read the inner workings of a madman & see picture/videos on board Nunatak via John's twitterings: http://twitter.com/johnthevet

22/06/09 Nunatak lie in 3rd after Scafell -2000BST

After completing their Scafell run/cycle in 8 hours and 4 minutes, John & Rich came into Whitehaven lying in third place behind GFT and Ulula. They had a good cycle and run, but didn't push 'full-on' because they had a little time allowance with the lock being closed until sometime after 8pm.

Light winds are forecasted over the next few days, so it looks like they'll be quite a bit of rowing & little chance for rest.

The feeling is that they will probably arrive in Fort William sometime in the afternoon on Wednesday, where we can expect an epic battle for victory!

22/06/09 Nun too pleased with the wind -0830BST

After eventually clearing the Menai Straits, and moving into the open sea Team Nunatak were faced by light winds, making life very frustrating. At 0830BST they were 4 miles or so from Whitehaven, having spent 8 hours rowing last night, they should hopefully by 0930BST. Katy has been prepared the bikes for the ride to Ennerdale, and from there they will climb Scafell.

Morale is high on board, although with the rain overnight in the area John & Rich are concerned about having slicks on the bike!!

21/06/09 Team Nunatak 2nd into Caernarfon

Team Nunatak had a great overnight sail, arriving in Caernarfon in second place behind Ulula. John & Rich had a great run taking 15 out of Ulula, but both were caught by the quick runners of GFT adventure.

They are now in the Menai Straits, in third place, heading for Whitehaven. Follow John's twitterings at: www.twitter.com/johnthevet

29/06/08 Disaster strikes for running duo!

John Taylor & Richard Ludlow’s attempt to win the 3-peaks yacht race has ended in disaster after the yacht that they were sailing in ran aground. Team Nunatek was leading when disaster struck as they ran aground on the sand just inside Caernarfon Bar!

They had to retire after using their engine to move off the sand bank at the entrance to the Strait. More news here: www.sleepmonsters.co.uk
